It turns out that we have an outstanding opportunity to do good.

Research shows that some of the best interventions are 100x more impactful than others. That might mean the difference between helping one person, and helping hundreds of people for exactly the same amount of time or money. So we should first focus on those options where we can help the most people for our limited time and money.

Effective altruism is about using evidence and reason to find these opportunities to help others most effectively.

Most of us want to make a difference. We see suffering and injustice, and are moved to do something about them. But working out what that ‘something’ is, let alone actually doing it, can be a difficult challenge.

Effective altruism is a response to this challenge. It is a research field and a network of people taking these answers seriously, by focusing efforts on promising solutions to the world's most pressing problems.
